Principal Backend Engineer - Casino

Responsibilities
- Set technical direction and architecture for complex, cross-team systems.
- Design and implement complex backend features for Casino and Sportsbook applications.
- Own the quality, scope, and timeliness of deliverables.
- Advise Engineering Managers, Technical VPs, Product Managers, Principal Engineers, and Architects on technical and architectural decisions.
- Write quality code, perform code reviews, and coach Developers, Senior Engineers, and Staff Engineers.
- Mentor engineers and help teams build scalable systems capable of handling high transaction and user volumes.
- Champion AI-assisted development practices and tools to improve engineering velocity and code quality.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of work experience.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or Cursor.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Experience working with large-traffic systems and high-volume customer workloads.
- Deep understanding of AWS Cloud technologies and scalable multi-region application design.
- Experience with Java and Spring or Spring Boot.
- Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or CockroachDB.
- Experience with streaming technologies such as Amazon Kinesis and Kafka.
- Experience with message queues such as SQS, RabbitMQ, and ActiveMQ.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with microservice and service-oriented architectures.
- Experience working in an agile development environment.
- Preferred experience in the casino industry or another regulated industry such as banking.
- Preferred experience championing AI-assisted engineering practices within an engineering organization.
