Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain Generative AI services and applications in Python from proof of concept through production.
- Architect and implement secure, reliable, scalable AI solutions integrating enterprise data, tools, and platforms.
- Develop agentic systems, RAG pipelines, and applications using LLMs, embeddings, rerankers, vector databases, and prompt design or evaluation.
- Implement safeguards, guardrails, monitoring, governance, privacy, and security practices for responsible AI usage.
- Collaborate with business teams to identify and deliver valuable Generative AI opportunities.
- Mentor others and influence Air New Zealand’s AI strategy while guiding delivery of high-quality AI solutions.
- Stay current with emerging Generative AI technologies and turn innovative approaches into robust, maintainable systems.
Requirements
- Strong experience designing, building, and scaling Generative AI services and applications.
- Advanced Python engineering skills and experience developing secure, production-ready systems.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, agents, embeddings, rerankers, vector databases, RAG pipelines, and prompt design or evaluation.
- Experience taking AI solutions from proof of concept through reliable, scalable production services.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including testing, mocking, CI/CD, APIs, and preferably asynchronous frameworks such as FastAPI.
- Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, feature stores, model and registry versioning, offline and online evaluation, and golden datasets.
- Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, Azure, or GCP, and containerisation tools such as Docker or Kubernetes.
- Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform or CloudFormation is advantageous.
- Understanding of responsible AI, safeguards, guardrails, monitoring, governance, privacy, security, sensitive data, and regulated enterprise environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, curiosity, experimentation, and the ability to guide others.
