Base Salary

$123k - $201k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal engineers and the open-source community on feature and bug-fix requests
  • Clarify ambiguous product requirements and influence product direction based on user needs and system constraints
  • Design, implement, and deploy features and systems affecting mission outcomes
  • Integrate software products with existing defense systems while meeting interoperability and security requirements
  • Own architecture decisions and maintain technical quality across the engineering team
  • Develop design specifications, user manuals, and maintenance guides
  • Track emerging technologies and industry trends to inform product enhancements
  • Provide technical mentorship and elevate engineering standards
  • Participate in a shared 24x7 on-call rotation, including incident response, troubleshooting, and coordination for reliable production systems
  • Participate in communities of practice through Slack and GitHub Issues

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience using Git and GitHub in collaborative environments
  • Experience building and operating software products
  • Proficiency in a modern programming language, with Golang and/or TypeScript preferred
  • Experience with infrastructure as code using OpenTofu or Terraform
  • Strong understanding of system design, APIs, databases, and cloud architecture, including AWS or Azure
  • Experience developing CLIs, Kubernetes Operators, and/or OpenTofu providers is a plus
  • Familiarity with core Kubernetes concepts, including Controllers, Operators, and CRDs
  • Experience contributing to or collaborating with open-source projects such as CNCF, ASF, or OpenSSF is a plus
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to assess complex problems, propose pragmatic solutions, and drive them to completion
  • Ability to work proactively, manage time efficiently, and thrive in a remote work environment
