Senior Software Engineer
Toast, Inc.Base Salary
$125k - $254k/yr
Responsibilities
- Drive the evolution of tips and earnings platforms through complex projects that improve customer functionality and reliability.
- Own systems end to end, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, operation, and long-term maintenance.
- Build scalable production software that affects product revenue and the accuracy of restaurant employee payments.
- Partner with product and design to influence product and technical decisions.
- Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions, engineering standards, and mentoring.
- Use AI tools such as Claude to accelerate development and improve engineering workflows.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend software engineering experience with one or more object-oriented programming languages such as Java or Kotlin.
- Proficiency with modern web standards and technologies including React, TypeScript, REST, and GraphQL.
- Experience with traditional databases and alternative data stores.
- Experience owning and operating production systems.
- Experience with distributed systems, enterprise messaging systems, and/or microservices.
- Demonstrated ability to solve ambiguous, high-impact problems and deliver scalable solutions.
- Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical topics across teams.
- Appreciation for precision and correctness in systems that calculate employee pay.
