Responsibilities
- Architect and build scalable, low-latency distributed search systems.
- Design and optimize large-scale indexing, retrieval, streaming, and data pipelines.
- Develop hybrid search using keyword, vector, semantic, and LLM-based reranking techniques.
- Build Java and Spring backend services and REST APIs.
- Design event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging systems.
- Improve search relevance and ranking through ML/NLP, Learning to Rank, query understanding, and personalization.
- Define search-quality metrics, evaluation frameworks, and experimentation strategies.
- Own the design, development, deployment, and operation of microservices.
- Improve performance, reliability, scalability, and fault tolerance across indexing and query layers.
- Implement authentication, authorization, encryption, and other security best practices.
- Lead technical design discussions, influence architecture, collaborate with product and data science teams, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 8+ years of backend or distributed-systems development experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with large-scale data processing or streaming systems.
- Deep expertise in Java and the JVM ecosystem, including Java 11/17+.
- Expert-level knowledge of Spring Framework, including Spring Boot, MVC, Security, and Retry.
- Experience designing scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems and optimizing concurrency, multithreading, and performance.
- Strong experience with Solr, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Lucene and with indexing, query execution, relevance tuning, and hybrid retrieval.
- Hands-on experience with Learning to Rank, query understanding, personalization, and semantic or LLM reranking.
- Extensive experience with Apache Beam, Spark, or Storm and with streaming semantics, windowing, and state management.
- Strong expertise in NoSQL systems, preferably Cassandra, plus experience with multi-tenant and high-throughput architectures.
- Production experience with Kafka or similar systems and knowledge of event sourcing, CQRS, and backpressure handling.
- Experience with OAuth, service-to-service authentication, encryption, KMS, Kubernetes, containerized environments, Jenkins, and Maven.
- Strong experience with unit, integration, and distributed-system testing, including familiarity with JUnit, Mockito, and embedded test frameworks.
- Ability to drive technical vision, make architectural decisions, own outcomes, collaborate cross-functionally, and mentor engineers.
