Responsibilities
- Evaluate the existing codebase and determine whether to extend or replace it while setting the platform’s technical direction.
- Design and build APIs, services, and data models for infrastructure self-service across AWS, Azure, and on-premises environments.
- Define control-plane, data-plane, partner integration, identity, authorization, RBAC, ABAC, and audit-trail patterns.
- Build backend services and user-facing console, CLI, and API surfaces using the appropriate systems language.
- Establish CI/CD pipelines, source-control practices, branching and release strategies, and deployment safety controls.
- Operate the platform in production, including observability, on-call, incident response, and postmortems.
- Partner with infrastructure and product teams, influence roadmaps without direct authority, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including building and operating platform or infrastructure software at scale.
- Strong proficiency in Go, Python, Java, or equivalent systems and platform languages.
- Deep understanding of control-plane and data-plane design, desired state, reconciliation, failure isolation, and blast radius.
- Hands-on experience with AWS or equivalent major cloud providers across compute, networking, IAM, storage, and managed Kubernetes.
- Strong grounding in containers, ephemeral compute, Docker, Kubernetes, and immutable infrastructure patterns.
- Experience shipping backend services and user-facing console, CLI, or API surfaces for large and varied user bases.
- Experience designing CI/CD pipelines and safe branching and release strategies for teams with many contributors.
- Depth in networking, systems, or cloud, along with high ownership and operational excellence.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and peer teams without direct authority.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a US Secret Security clearance.
- Preferred experience with OIDC, SAML, OPA, Cedar, RBAC, ABAC, Azure, on-premises environments, Kubernetes controllers or operators, Crossplane, Terraform, OpenTofu, enterprise networking, FedRAMP, DoD IL levels, CMMC, TypeScript, and React.
