Responsibilities
- Build and evolve scalable, channel-independent checkout and Core Commerce Services capabilities from discovery and design through production.
- Define APIs, domain boundaries, integration patterns, and architecture for a secure and maintainable platform.
- Drive technical alignment across Checkout, Payment, Product, and other dependent teams while maintaining clear ownership boundaries.
- Contribute directly to production code and make pragmatic technical decisions in a greenfield 0-to-1 environment.
- Mentor engineers through pairing, design discussions, code reviews, and technical feedback while raising engineering standards.
- Help establish technical foundations for AI-powered assistants, agentic commerce, and emerging commerce channels.
Requirements
- Strong Java and backend engineering expertise with experience designing and building backend services, platforms, and large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience operating at Staff/Principal level or demonstrated equivalent senior technical leadership.
- Strong system design and architecture capabilities with significant technical ownership and a high level of autonomy.
- Ability to shape architecture, APIs, and domain boundaries, evaluate trade-offs, and turn ambiguity into pragmatic decisions.
- Track record of mentoring engineers and leading through influence across engineering domains.
- Experience with headless or traditional checkout, order management, SaaS/platform engineering, e-commerce, or marketplaces is a valuable plus but not required.
