Responsibilities
- Shape the technical direction of a small, high-impact team while contributing hands-on to design, implementation, and code review.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through pair programming, code reviews, technical guidance, and architectural discussions.
- Write production-quality C++ and Python for mission-critical systems and establish strong engineering practices.
- Prototype software solutions and guide them from research and simulation through deployed tactical implementations.
- Implement high-performance software spanning tactical systems and web applications.
- Use high-fidelity modeling, simulation environments, and analysis tools to quantify technology benefits.
- Lead technical interchange meetings, sprint planning, and customer engagements.
- Own the software development lifecycle and navigate ambiguity and complex technical trade-offs.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience and a bachelor's degree or equivalent education/work experience.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring junior engineers and providing technical leadership while remaining a hands-on individual contributor.
- Experience working collaboratively with large, complex codebases.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
- Direct experience in air and missile defense domains, including areas such as multi-target tracking, sensor fusion, threat classification, kill-chain development, or command-and-control systems.
- Experience with big data, NoSQL, or database technologies.
- Knowledge of software design, algorithm implementation, software analysis, testing, and optimization.
- Knowledge of applied mathematics including differential equations, linear algebra, optimization, statistics, and random processes.
- Knowledge of controls, estimation theory, and digital signal processing.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret SCI security clearance.
- Preferred: experience leading small teams or technical workstreams while remaining a top individual contributor.
- Preferred: a record of growing engineers through mentorship, code review culture, and technical coaching.
- Preferred: experience with asynchronous, parallel, or GPU programming and deployment to real-world tactical or edge environments.
