Base Salary

$135k - $155k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Conduct R&D on new connected-home devices and products.
  • Architect, design, develop, test, debug, and validate embedded firmware for microcontrollers.
  • Create software design specifications from requirements and develop production-quality code.
  • Implement device drivers, power-management features, and firmware optimized for runtime performance, memory requirements, and code reuse.
  • Develop and execute firmware test specifications and support unit testing, validation, and debugging.
  • Collaborate with developers, stakeholders, hardware teams, production, partners, and other departments to resolve product issues and transfer products and processes.
  • Track software issues, participate in architecture and defect discussions, and determine resolutions with the team.
  • Support cost-reduction, production-yield, efficiency, and quality-improvement projects.
  • Mentor junior team members through code reviews, design-document reviews, and technical presentations.
  • Manage multiple projects across different development phases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of embedded real-time firmware development experience, including requirements analysis, design, testing, and documentation.
  • At least 3 years of experience in system design and architecture.
  • Extensive experience across all phases of embedded firmware development in platform-independent environments.
  • Strong knowledge or hands-on experience with Bluetooth Classic, Bluetooth Low Energy, Zigbee, RF4CE, Wi-Fi, and Z-Wave.
  • Experience with SPI, I2C, UART, I2S, and other communication protocols and embedded control peripherals.
  • Hands-on experience with 16- to 32-bit MCU cores, including ARM Cortex, and associated peripherals.
  • Experience with bare-metal development and an RTOS; FreeRTOS experience is a plus.
  • Experience designing device drivers for external memories and sensors.
  • Experience with firmware development tools, version control, requirements, design, coding, unit testing, and firmware test specifications.
  • Experience using debuggers, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and oscilloscopes, including JTAG or serial debugging.
  • Scripting experience with Perl, Python, or similar languages for test automation is a plus.
  • Experience with power management and solving problems involving both firmware and hardware.
  • Consumer electronics experience involving IR/RF remote controls, HVAC controls, thermostats, or sensors is a plus.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, collaboration, multitasking, and deadline-management abilities.
