Responsibilities
- Lead the data engineering team in designing, developing, and maintaining data applications.
- Architect and implement backend solutions for business needs.
- Design, build, test, and deploy scalable solutions for Walmart’s advertising and marketing platform.
- Lead engineering and operational excellence initiatives, including coding standards, best practices, code reviews, and bug fixing.
- Work with product teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Work with data science teams to implement analytics pipelines and enable platform use by data scientists and business partners.
- Monitor systems, identify issues, and escalate systemic root causes.
- Lead discovery phases for medium to large projects and produce high-level designs.
- Mentor and coach junior developers and collaborate with engineering teams across geographies.
- Champion the use of AI in data engineering applications.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related technical field and six-plus years of experience, as stated in the role description.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area and three years of software engineering or related experience, or five years of such experience without the degree.
- Experience with Spark, Hive, BigQuery, Java, and Python.
- Experience bootstrapping production and non-production environments in public or private clouds.
- Strong knowledge of Linux systems and troubleshooting complex, distributed, multi-tier architectures.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, written communication, verbal communication, and cross-team collaboration skills.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree and experience leading information security or cybersecurity projects.
- Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility practices is valued.
- Cisco certification is listed as a preferred qualification.
