Responsibilities
- Implement new C++ firmware modules from high-level system requirements and update existing modules to fix bugs and improve functionality.
- Develop, simulate, and debug VHDL code running on FPGAs and interacting with DSPs and other hardware devices.
- Read schematics and use multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other electronic test equipment to test and debug firmware on motion-control hardware.
- Conduct rigorous testing on real motion-control systems to verify firmware features and compliance with design parameters.
- Optimize algorithms for hard real-time systems and collaborate with Electrical, Software, and Mechanical Engineering, Product Management, Sales, and Global Technical Support.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Zero to two years of professional post-graduation experience focused on embedded software or firmware development.
- Proficiency with C or C++ and experience with a hardware description language such as VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
- Experience using electronic test instruments to troubleshoot code on physical hardware.
- Must be located in the Pittsburgh area or willing to relocate and must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
- Preferred qualifications include object-oriented C++ for hard real-time embedded systems, firmware development for Texas Instruments DSPs, VHDL and Vivado Design Suite experience, digital signal processing and feedback control knowledge, Git, Atlassian Jira, and relevant co-op, internship, design team, or professional experience.
