Responsibilities
- Define availability, reliability, and performance objectives with engineering teams using service-level objectives and error budgets.
- Develop instrumentation, dashboards, metrics, logs, traces, and actionable alerts that identify and explain emerging production problems.
- Investigate failure modes and implement application, infrastructure, and architecture changes that improve resilience, performance, and recoverability.
- Build an agentic SRE platform that enables agents to investigate alerts, execute runbooks, perform recovery actions, and verify outcomes.
- Engineer permissions, audit trails, rollback, and human escalation into the agent execution environment.
- Participate in the on-call rotation, coordinate incident recovery, communicate clearly, and involve appropriate engineers.
- Turn incidents and near misses into improvements to systems, observability, and agent operations.
- Automate repetitive operational work and establish production-readiness and operational practices across engineering teams.
Requirements
- Significant experience in SRE or a similar engineering role operating production software at scale alongside a large engineering organization.
- Strong software engineering skills, including understanding unfamiliar application code, diagnosing production behavior, and implementing and testing changes.
- Hands-on experience designing, operating, and troubleshooting production systems on AWS.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, networking, databases, and service availability and performance failure modes.
- Experience defining reliability objectives and building observability with metrics, logs, traces, and actionable alerts.
- Experience responding to production incidents and following through on reliability improvements.
- Practical use of AI tools in engineering workflows and the judgment to build toward increasingly autonomous operations.
- Strong ownership, communication, technical trade-off reasoning, and ability to drive improvements across team boundaries.
- Helpful but not required: experience building AI agents, tool integrations, automated investigation or remediation workflows, evaluating agent behavior, infrastructure as code with Pulumi, Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, ClickHouse, ClickStack, or establishing SRE practices and new teams.
