Responsibilities
- Design, build, maintain, and operate scalable backend services for financial transactions and customer-facing financial products.
- Write production-quality code in Go, Python, or Node.js/TypeScript and participate in technical design and code reviews.
- Build and consume GraphQL and RESTful APIs and design inter-service communication using gRPC, message queues, and event-driven architectures.
- Design and optimize PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis schemas for correctness, performance, and scale.
- Own backend features from scoping and technical design through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
- Integrate OpenAI and Anthropic LLM API capabilities into backend features and build safe pipelines for validating and handling AI-generated outputs.
- Use AI coding tools including GitHub Copilot, Claude, and Cursor in daily development.
- Implement security best practices and improve structured logging, distributed tracing, metrics, CI/CD, testing infrastructure, and deployment practices.
- Participate in on-call rotations, production incident response, and post-incident reviews.
- Collaborate with globally distributed engineering, product, compliance, and data teams in English and Spanish or Portuguese.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional backend engineering experience building and operating production systems.
- Professional fluency in English and fluency in Spanish or Portuguese.
- Strong proficiency in at least one of Go, Python, or Node.js/TypeScript.
- Experience designing RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven backend systems.
- Strong relational database knowledge, preferably PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and data modeling.
- Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure; Docker and Kubernetes; and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience reliably integrating third-party APIs in production, including error handling, retry logic, and observability.
- Experience working on globally distributed teams across time zones and regions.
- Comfort using AI tools, integrating LLM API outputs into backend services, and using AI coding assistants.
- Preferred: fintech, financial services, payments, regulated-industry, ledger, payment-rail, KYC/AML, or PCI-DSS experience.
- Preferred: startup or high-growth scale-up experience and comfort working with ambiguity.
- Preferred: multi-currency or cross-border payment processing experience.
- Preferred: Kafka or RabbitMQ familiarity and event-driven architecture experience.
- Fluency in both Spanish and Portuguese and global experience across multiple countries and regulatory environments are additional assets.
