Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, optimize, debug, and validate Linux kernel technologies involving CPU scheduling, CPU topology, CPUFreq/DVFS, power management, virtualization, and memory management.
  • Analyze cross-layer system problems involving workloads, the Linux kernel, firmware, CPU architecture, cache and memory hierarchy, and hardware.
  • Develop scheduler policies, workload placement, frequency management, topology-aware scheduling, and workload-aware performance optimizations.
  • Characterize workloads and analyze scheduling behavior, CPU utilization, scalability, latency, cache behavior, power, and performance.
  • Evaluate processor and SoC capabilities and contribute to Linux kernel architecture, design, implementation, platform enablement, and commercialization.
  • Validate kernel technologies across QEMU, FPGA emulation, and production silicon using ftrace, tracepoints, perf, trace-cmd, crash analysis, and JTAG.
  • Contribute to upstream Linux and open-source system software, architecture and code reviews, technical documentation, mentoring, and technical guidance.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, performance, virtualization, internal engineering, customer, partner, and open-source teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field plus 6+ years of software engineering or related experience; alternatively, a master’s degree plus 5+ years or a PhD plus 4+ years.
  • 3+ years of experience with a programming language such as C, C++, Java, or Python.
  • Deep expertise in C programming and Linux kernel development, including hands-on experience with Linux kernel subsystems such as CPU scheduling, CPU topology, CPUFreq/DVFS, power management, interrupts, timers, governors, platform enablement, or device drivers.
  • Strong understanding of computer architecture, including CPU microarchitecture, cache hierarchy and coherency, memory ordering and hierarchy, NUMA/topology concepts, and interrupt architecture.
  • Significant experience analyzing and optimizing system performance and power and correlating workload behavior with kernel, firmware, and hardware behavior.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently debug difficult system-level problems involving hardware, firmware, operating-system software, and applications.
  • Extensive experience with Linux debugging and performance-analysis tools including perf, ftrace, trace-cmd, kernel tracepoints, crash dumps, and JTAG-based debugging.
  • Experience with Git, code-review workflows, large-scale production software, and preferably QEMU, FPGA, emulation, or pre-silicon development environments.
  • Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree with 8+ years of relevant systems software experience or equivalent practical experience, ARM and RISC-V expertise, platform bring-up, device tree/ACPI, interrupt controllers, timers, memory controllers, and upstream Linux contributions.
  • Ability to work on technically ambiguous problems, evaluate trade-offs, develop robust solutions with limited direction, communicate complex technical topics, and mentor engineers.

Benefits

  • Annual base pay range is $169,800.00–$254,600.00, with a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and potential annual RSU grants.
  • Qualcomm offers a competitive benefits package supporting employees at work, at home, and at play, with additional US benefits details available through the company.
  • Qualcomm provides reasonable accommodations during the application and hiring process and is an equal opportunity employer.
