Responsibilities
- Own and improve the telemetry data pipeline from AWS IoT Core and Kafka into TimescaleDB and legacy GCP Pub/Sub.
- Drive pipeline throughput, correctness, latency, stability, scalability, and infrastructure cost efficiency as the device fleet grows.
- Design and evolve secure, low-latency GraphQL and REST APIs and maintain the BFF layer for web and mobile clients.
- Improve Kafka partitioning, consumer groups, batching, backpressure, hot-path isolation, and time-series data handling.
- Use Grafana and observability practices to identify slow queries, monitor the pipeline, and prevent production incidents.
- Execute safe live-system changes using parallel runs, shadow validation, staged cutovers, and rollback strategies.
- Participate in incident response, technical direction, code review, documentation, and cross-functional delivery with firmware and service teams.
Requirements
- 5–10 years of experience building and operating production backend systems, including meaningful experience with high-throughput streaming or time-series data.
- Deep practical knowledge of Kafka partitioning, consumer groups, rebalancing, ordering, idempotency, schema evolution, SQL, and time-series databases such as TimescaleDB, ClickHouse, or InfluxDB.
- Experience designing secure, low-latency GraphQL and REST APIs for web and mobile clients.
- Experience migrating live systems without downtime using parallel writes, shadow validation, staged cutovers, and rollback.
- Fluency with TypeScript and Node.js; experience with NestJS is relevant to the company’s services.
- Production experience with AWS, including ECS, IoT Core, networking, and Terraform or infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Ability to become productive in Go for latency-sensitive services; prior Go experience is preferred but not required.
- Clear technical documentation, communication across technical and non-technical teams, production incident experience, and the ability to set technical direction and improve other engineers.
