Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain reliable software for activity recording, planning, training, and file-management features.
- Investigate and resolve complex software issues spanning multiple teams and products.
- Own and evolve shared technologies used by Garmin Outdoor and Fitness product teams.
- Lead individual-contributor software development for new products and applications.
- Decompose ambiguous requirements into plans, dependencies, risks, estimates, milestones, and schedules.
- Provide technical assessments of new technologies and software designs.
- Improve software performance and advocate for unit and automated testing improvements.
- Contribute technical input to project leadership, program planning, product development plans, and concept documents.
- Evaluate project feasibility, tradeoffs, and risks.
- Mentor and guide less experienced Software Engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics, or a related field plus at least five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent academic performance, generally with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0; a GPA of at least 3.5 is preferred.
- Proficiency designing well-architected software systems and modules that support new technology or improve existing capabilities and performance.
- Competence researching fundamental problems and implementing appropriate algorithmic solutions.
- Experience serving as a lead software engineer for a complex software project.
- Ability to decompose functional requirements into well-defined tasks and balance quality, quantity, and complexity.
- Ability to provide peer technical assessments on areas of expertise, new technologies, and software designs.
- Mastery of C, C++, C#, or Java, with relevant data structures or object-oriented design experience and/or training.
- Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, problem-solving, organizational, prioritization, and leadership skills.
