Base Salary
$175k - $230k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain network-facing software layers for reliable Node-to-shore communication.
- Design bandwidth-efficient egress telemetry pipelines that balance data fidelity, timeliness, and link constraints.
- Collaborate on APIs and schemas for command, control, and telemetry exchanges between subsystems.
- Develop bandwidth prioritization strategies across telemetry, command and control, diagnostics, and other data streams.
- Implement graceful degradation during connectivity loss through buffering, retry logic, and prioritized retransmission.
- Review and harden onboard software with network and security engineers before deployment.
- Analyze and optimize system latency, throughput, and resource efficiency.
- Improve unit testing frameworks, integration tests, deployment pipelines, code reviews, documentation, and software engineering practices.
- Participate in design reviews, architecture discussions, and cross-team technical collaborations.
Requirements
- 7+ years of software development experience, including 3+ years with data-intensive or mission-critical systems.
- Proficiency in a systems programming language such as Rust or C++.
- Experience with Git, automated testing and deployment pipelines, and network-facing software in production systems.
- Understanding of computer networking fundamentals at L2–L4, transport protocols, congestion control, and distributed systems.
- Experience designing systems for constrained, high-latency, intermittent, or expensive links such as satellite, maritime, or remote-operations links.
- Familiarity with authentication, authorization, encryption, and key management for networked systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, self-starting environment and communicate effectively across varied backgrounds.
- Desired qualifications include Rust experience, real-time or safety-adjacent systems experience, robotics, aerospace or marine systems experience, telemetry and monitoring data systems experience, and containerized build environments.
- Ability to intermittently work longer hours and weekends for critical needs.
