Responsibilities

  • Design, build, operate, and evolve backend services, APIs, workers, shared libraries, and cloud-platform runtime infrastructure.
  • Develop orchestration and job-execution capabilities for submission, execution tracking, status propagation, retries, cancellation, results, and operational visibility.
  • Build asynchronous, queue-driven, and event-driven systems with durable state, service-to-service communication, acknowledgements, routing, and failure recovery.
  • Maintain cloud-native infrastructure using containers, Kubernetes, deployment automation, persistence layers, event streams, and internal service contracts.
  • Improve production reliability through health checks, metrics, tracing, structured logging, dashboards, alerting, runbooks, incident follow-up, and operational debugging.
  • Lead ambiguous cross-service technical designs, review code, mentor engineers, and drive cross-team delivery.
  • Design and maintain embedded Python runtime integration in a predominantly C++ engine, including plugin engines, process lifecycle, SDK components, streaming pipelines, and Python-facing APIs.
  • Debug native/runtime issues involving DLL and .pyd conflicts, OpenSSL, compiled extensions, Python versions, concurrency, deadlocks, crashes, and high-throughput streaming.
  • Modernize virtualenv/venv management, installer and packaging infrastructure, WiX installers, native DLL exports, and Python/CPython ABI compatibility.
  • Maintain SDKs, CI/CD and code-quality tooling, architecture documentation, operational runbooks, and upgrade playbooks for Python and OpenSSL versions.
  • Collaborate with security and platform teams on native-library vulnerabilities and SBOM health.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of professional software development experience is required; 5+ years is preferred, with meaningful ownership of production backend services, cloud platforms, or distributed systems.
  • Strong backend experience with TypeScript/Node.js or core systems languages such as Go, Java, or Rust, with willingness to code primarily in Node.js.
  • Experience designing and operating asynchronous, queue-driven, or event-driven systems, including retries, cancellation, idempotency, concurrency, ordering, timeouts, and failure handling.
  • Experience with durable persistence, service contracts, RESTful APIs, and integrations across multiple services or platform components.
  • Production experience with containers, Kubernetes or similar orchestration platforms, service health, scaling behavior, and operational debugging.
  • Strong production-engineering ownership involving testing, observability, structured logging, metrics, tracing, incident response, and continuous reliability improvement.
  • Ability to lead design discussions, communicate technical tradeoffs, mentor engineers, and drive cross-team work through ambiguity.
  • Preferred experience with workflow engines, orchestration systems, job runners, task-execution platforms, runtime infrastructure, GitOps, multi-cluster environments, infrastructure automation, messaging systems, schema management, notification pipelines, distributed coordination, authentication, secrets management, authorization boundaries, and workload observability.
  • 3+ years of Python and C++ design, development, and debugging experience is also stated for the embedded Python/C++ engine and SDK responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Preferred qualifications include REST API or SDK development, object-oriented and functional design patterns, Git-based pipelines, mentoring, networking and concurrency, distributed computing, big data and stream processing, Docker, Kubernetes, Rust or Golang, Node.js, cloud services, React, JavaScript, JSON, RPC optimization, and Alteryx platform experience.

Benefits

  • Employees may be eligible for bonus or commission, medical, retirement, financial, wellness, time-off, employee-discount, and other benefits.
  • Alteryx provides benefits for all associates; detailed benefits are available through the company benefits page.
  • The position may involve access to software and technology subject to U.S. export controls, and employment is contingent on the applicant's ability to comply with those controls.
  • Alteryx states that it supports a growth mindset and encourages applicants who meet some, but not necessarily all, requirements.
  • For San Francisco and Los Angeles roles, the company will consider qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records under applicable fair-chance ordinances.
