Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate scalable data-platform services and distributed systems.
- Develop reliable batch and streaming data processing and ingestion capabilities with guarantees for correctness, recovery, and freshness.
- Improve data workload performance, availability, and cost efficiency through architecture, measurement, and optimization.
- Build platform abstractions and self-service workflows for engineering and data users.
- Establish observability, alerting, capacity planning, incident response, and durable root-cause remediation.
- Apply access control, data governance, and safe change-management practices to production systems and datasets.
- Lead technical design reviews, resolve ambiguous problems, and make pragmatic architecture decisions.
- Partner with infrastructure, product, analytics, and machine-learning teams to deliver measurable platform outcomes.
- Mentor engineers through design and code reviews and contribute to engineering quality improvements.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems, including meaningful distributed systems or data infrastructure experience.
- Strong programming skills in one or more of Java, Scala, Python, or Go, with the ability to write maintainable, well-tested code.
- Strong understanding of distributed computing, data structures, concurrency, fault tolerance, and system design.
- Hands-on experience with large-scale data processing or streaming technologies such as Apache Spark, Kafka, or Flink.
- Experience designing reliable data pipelines and working with storage formats, lakehouse systems, or analytical warehouses.
- Good SQL skills and understanding of data modeling, partitioning, performance tuning, and data quality.
- Experience operating cloud-based production systems, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and service reliability management.
- Ability to take problems from unclear requirements through production implementation and ongoing operation.
- Clear communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering and data-focused teams.
- Preferred experience includes Databricks, Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg, Snowflake, multi-tenant platforms, developer tooling, self-service infrastructure, data governance, lineage, access control, privacy-aware systems, and technical initiative leadership.
