Responsibilities
- Help teams make, document, test, and improve architectural decisions in their own domains.
- Contribute to the weekly architecture advisory forum and connect relevant architectural decisions across repositories and teams.
- Identify and address cross-cutting concerns including contracts, versioning, identity, permissions, tenancy, data isolation, observability, and migration sequencing.
- Write production code, build reference implementations, prototype and research architectural directions, and improve adopted patterns.
- Diagnose performance, data-integrity, cross-service, and multi-team problems across the platform.
- Partner with engineering leaders, product, delivery teams, customers, and integration partners on sequencing, deployment architecture, security, integrations, and performance.
- Support incremental migration from legacy systems and help other engineers develop as architectural thinkers.
Requirements
- Substantial experience building and operating production software, including senior, staff, or principal-level responsibility.
- Five or six years of professional experience as stated in the posting.
- Track record of owning work end to end from design through shipped and operated production code.
- Depth in multiple layers of the stack, including backend services, data modeling and persistence, web or mobile client architecture, cloud infrastructure, and delivery pipelines.
- Experience with event-driven or event-sourced systems, explicit domain modeling, and architecture enforced through code or tests.
- Experience evolving versioned public APIs, SDKs, plugin platforms, or other contracts without breaking dependent parties.
- Familiarity with distributed data, replication, consistency levels, event ordering, versioning, multi-region failure modes, and legacy-system migration.
- Strong technical writing skills for design documents, ADRs, and RFCs.
- Practical experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, Cowork, and Copilot, along with evaluation and reliability harnesses.
- Ability to work effectively across time zones and distributed teams.
- Preferred experience includes retail, point-of-sale, omnichannel commerce, telecom retail, extension platforms, payments, PCI, tokenization, terminal integrations, SOC 2, multi-tenant SaaS, and major product end-of-life or replatforming.
