Base Salary
$194k - $285k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the reliability, performance, correctness, architecture, and long-term technical direction of the storage abstraction platform.
- Work on the data plane, including proxies, key-value systems, CDC, routing, tail latency, hot partitions, GC/MVCC behavior, and failure isolation.
- Shape thin and thick providers, polyglot code generation, SDKs, and the client surface connecting application services to the platform.
- Lead resolution of mission-critical issues, capacity and performance work, and lifecycle operations for Tier-0 services.
- Influence cross-team roadmaps and architectural decisions, mentor senior engineers, and raise engineering execution and quality standards.
- Guide customers from onboarding through adoption and translate ambiguous business needs into durable storage solutions.
- Design and operate systems for 100x growth while eliminating single points of failure through documentation, automation, and shared ownership.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience building large-scale distributed systems, including deep expertise in a Tier-0 storage or data-plane system.
- Experience with storage abstraction layers, data-access gateways, distributed key-value systems, database internals, caching, or storage proxy/control planes.
- Expertise in low-latency, high-throughput systems, including tail-latency optimization, partition handling, load balancing, routing, backpressure, and failure isolation.
- Strong production Go experience in distributed systems.
- Hands-on knowledge of MVCC, garbage collection or compaction, consistency models, replication, and/or CDC.
- Experience owning mission-critical services, including on-call leadership, incident resolution, capacity planning, and performance optimization.
- Demonstrated Staff-level technical leadership and experience setting direction across teams and driving organization-wide architectural decisions.
- Experience with Kubernetes, cloud-native infrastructure, metrics, tracing, and profiling.
- Proficiency using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor across the software development lifecycle.
- Preferred: Cassandra or comparable wide-column/NoSQL internals and operations experience.
- Preferred: experience building clients, SDKs, code-generation systems, or provider/abstraction layers across polyglot clients.
- Preferred: open-source contributions to storage, database, or distributed-systems projects.
