Base Salary
$405k - $485k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own backend systems powering the Claude API, Claude Code, and Claude.ai.
- Scope and lead complex multi-month projects through ambiguous problem spaces and guide peers through technical and product decisions.
- Make architectural decisions affecting the reliability and scalability of systems serving hundreds of thousands of global users.
- Build and scale API serving infrastructure, model capabilities, knowledge retrieval, developer tools, agent infrastructure, or enterprise foundations depending on team placement.
- Partner with product, engineering, inference, safeguards, research, and other teams to productionize model capabilities and address capability gaps.
- Develop systems and operational processes that improve team effectiveness and prevent recurring production failures.
- Remain hands-on with backend code, APIs, integrations, and AI models.
Requirements
- 8+ years of relevant backend or product engineering experience, including leadership of complex multi-month projects or teams as a tech lead or equivalent.
- Strong coding fundamentals and experience across backend systems, APIs, integrations, and, when needed, frontend work.
- Experience designing and delivering large-scale production backend systems for high-adoption B2B or consumer products.
- Experience with distributed systems, API design, and cloud infrastructure at scale.
- Strong cross-functional communication, technical alignment, mentorship, and ability to navigate ambiguity.
- Preferred experience as a technical lead or architect owning product or API platform vision and execution.
- Preferred experience scaling reliable APIs, enterprise SaaS platforms, permissions, billing, pricing, compliance, or sensitive domain-specific data systems.
- Preferred experience partnering with ML/AI research teams, building agentic systems, orchestration frameworks, developer tools, or AI-assisted coding environments.
- Preferred experience with product adoption and activation funnels or production operational processes such as incident response, on-call rotations, and postmortems.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience in a relevant field.
