Base Salary
$280k - $330k/yr
Responsibilities
- Drive cross-organizational technical impact by creating durable capabilities and systems.
- Establish technical direction through strategy documents, RFCs, architecture reviews, and cross-org alignment.
- Identify systemic risks and opportunities across multiple domains and organizations.
- Build shared patterns and frameworks that become engineering defaults and enable teams to move faster without sacrificing quality.
- Steward the health and evolution of multiple systems while balancing short-term pragmatism with long-term architectural integrity.
- Shape engineering culture through mentorship, collaboration, external speaking, and scalable programs or processes.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including cross-organizational technical leadership at consumer scale.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Deep mastery in one or more technical domains and sufficient hands-on involvement to maintain credibility and exercise judgment.
- Proven cross-organizational impact that changed how multiple teams build, operate, or think.
- Strong technical judgment, including design critique, failure-mode identification, principled trade-offs, and architectural decision-making.
- Experience building durable systems and patterns that outlast individual ownership.
- Experience delivering complex, ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives despite unclear requirements or misaligned stakeholders.
- Experience with high-traffic, high-reliability systems where correctness, performance, and user trust matter.
- Preferred qualifications include creating shared solutions across fragmented teams, authoring influential RFCs or strategy documents, unblocking initiatives outside one’s domain, using Whatnot as a buyer or seller, and mentoring engineers into higher-level roles.
