Responsibilities
- Develop, review, approve, and release software architecture and requirements specifications.
- Decompose customer, vehicle, system, safety, and regulatory needs into software requirements, architectural constraints, interfaces, and verification criteria.
- Develop and maintain software architecture models covering components, interfaces, data and control flows, operating modes, network communication, resource constraints, diagnostics, and degraded operation.
- Perform architectural trade studies and recommend solutions based on functionality, performance, reliability, safety, cybersecurity, maintainability, reuse, complexity, and lifecycle cost.
- Define software interfaces among vehicle controllers, displays, sensors, actuators, gateways, control applications, and external systems.
- Participate in design reviews and document findings, risks, actions, and recommendations.
- Support Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, and Fault Tree Analysis.
- Collaborate with systems, controls, software, hardware, functional safety, cybersecurity, test, manufacturing, service, and supplier teams.
- Review supplier requirements, software architectures, detailed designs, verification plans, and compliance evidence.
- Assess technical impacts of changes across software components, interfaces, safety analyses, verification activities, vehicle functions, and dependent systems.
- Apply UML, SysML, and model-based systems and software engineering methods where appropriate.
- Manage multiple priorities and complete assigned projects within schedule and budget objectives.
- Act as a technical lead by instructing and reviewing the work of others performing related work.
Requirements
- Accredited bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- At least three years of related experience in software systems engineering, embedded software, vehicle systems, software architecture, requirements engineering, functional safety, or a comparable discipline.
- Experience developing and reviewing software requirements and software architecture.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout a structured product-development lifecycle.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information through documentation, presentations, and technical discussions.
- Preferred qualifications include an accredited master’s degree in a relevant engineering field.
- Preferred experience includes automotive, commercial, defense, heavy-duty, off-highway, autonomous, hybrid, or electric vehicle embedded software.
- Preferred experience includes five or more years of vehicle or embedded-system requirements development.
- Preferred experience includes requirements development, architecture definition, interface management, safety analysis, or software design reviews.
- Preferred experience includes MagicDraw or Cameo, IBM DOORS, Medini Analyze, MBSE or lifecycle management tools, UML, SysML, embedded C/C++, MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, Python, vehicle network protocols, and functional safety or cybersecurity standards.
- Preferred experience includes CAN, J1939, Ethernet, CANalyzer, CANoe, PEAK PCAN, Kvaser, ISO 26262, MIL-STD-882, IEC 61508, ISO/SAE 21434, CMMI, or Automotive SPICE.

- Pay range is $79,300.00–$126,900.00 annually across U.S. locations, with individual pay determined by scope, experience, education, skills, and internal equity.
