Responsibilities
- Lead the technical direction and delivery of client-facing and internal portals, including standards for quality, performance, responsiveness, accessibility, security, and cross-browser compatibility.
- Own front-end standards, styling governance, component consistency, and UX alignment with Waystone’s corporate brand.
- Manage and modernize the existing portal estate, including heritage applications, and lead rationalization toward unified single-portal architectures.
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership to the in-house web development team through standards, code reviews, mentoring, and capability development.
- Direct and assure the quality of work delivered by external partners and augmented teams.
- Define and evolve web engineering standards, tooling, code review practices, version control, automated testing, and CI/CD processes.
- Ensure web delivery meets information security, regulatory, and control standards.
- Evaluate new technologies and embed AI-first and automation-first practices, including the use of Lovable for validated prototypes.
- Collaborate with architecture, engineering, assurance, design, delivery, product, marketing, and brand stakeholders.
Requirements
- Deep hands-on expertise in modern web and front-end engineering using Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS.
- Experience leading web or front-end teams, setting technical standards, and raising engineering quality.
- Demonstrable experience consolidating or rationalizing portal or web application estates and modernizing heritage applications.
- Experience delivering professional client-facing and internal portals.
- Experience working with delivery partners or augmented teams and holding them to in-house quality standards.
- Strong understanding of accessibility standards such as WCAG and responsive interface development across devices and browsers.
- Experience with version control, CI/CD, automated testing, disciplined code review, and AI prototyping or vibe-coding tools such as Lovable.
- Familiarity with Expo or cross-platform React applications is advantageous.
- Ability to translate business and user needs into technical solutions and operate effectively in regulated or control-heavy environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
