Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services that process financial transactions and serve customers across more than 20 countries.
- Develop production-quality backend code, participate in design and code reviews, and build RESTful and GraphQL APIs using distributed architectures.
- Design and optimize PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis data models and schemas for correctness, performance, and scale.
- Own backend features end to end, from scoping and technical design through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
- Integrate LLM APIs and safely consume AI-generated outputs in production features such as spend categorization, document parsing, and natural-language workflows.
- Implement authentication, authorization, input validation, data protection, structured logging, distributed tracing, and metrics.
- Participate in on-call rotations, respond to production incidents, contribute to post-incident reviews, and improve CI/CD, testing, and deployment practices.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, compliance, data, customers, and operational partners across regions in English and Spanish or Portuguese.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional backend engineering experience building and operating production systems.
- Fluency in English and Spanish or Portuguese for written and spoken collaboration with global and LATAM teams.
- Strong proficiency in at least one of Go, Python, or Node.js/TypeScript.
- Experience designing RESTful APIs, microservices, event-driven backend systems, and inter-service communication.
- Strong relational database knowledge, including PostgreSQL schema design, query optimization, and data modeling.
- Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure; Docker and Kubernetes; and CI/CD pipelines.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate third-party APIs reliably with error handling, retry logic, and observability.
- Comfort using AI coding tools and integrating LLM API outputs into backend services.
- Experience working on globally distributed teams across time zones and regions.
- Preferred experience includes fintech, financial services, payments, regulated industries, ledger systems, payment rails, KYC/AML, PCI-DSS, startups or high-growth scale-ups, multi-currency systems, cross-border payments, Kafka, RabbitMQ, and both Spanish and Portuguese.
