Responsibilities

  • Lead demanding device integrations and diagnose problems occurring with real hardware in a live laboratory.
  • Eliminate systemic failure classes across the hardware fleet rather than patching individual incidents.
  • Improve the shared controller framework and update existing controllers alongside framework changes.
  • Build tooling, simulators, and test infrastructure to improve team productivity.
  • Evolve service deployment and operations as the fleet grows.
  • Improve fleet observability so problems are detected early.
  • Contribute through hands-on code development, code reviews, and technical problem solving.

Requirements

  • Deep systems-engineering experience and a record of shipping and operating reliable production services.
  • Expert systems-engineering skills, with solid Rust experience or deep proficiency in another systems language and willingness to work in a Rust codebase.
  • Experience with asynchronous programming.
  • Experience building and operating production networked services such as gRPC or REST, including error handling, observability, and failure modes.
  • Experience with hardware and instrument protocols and interfaces such as SCPI, Modbus, serial, and Ethernet.
  • Strong diagnosis, prioritization, judgment, and communication skills across software and interdisciplinary teams.
