Base Salary
$186k - $266k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build, integrate, package, and ship Cobalt as the native runtime for Tubi connected-TV applications.
- Implement and maintain Starboard integrations for graphics, input, audio/video playback, DRM, and system services.
- Develop native modules in modern C++ and Rust, including safe FFI boundaries between the languages.
- Profile and improve CPU, memory, and startup performance on memory-constrained devices.
- Track upstream Cobalt releases, contribute fixes upstream, and manage engine security patches.
- Collaborate with media and playback teams on demuxing, adaptive streaming, and ad playback.
- Build developer and CI tooling to run and test Tubi’s Cobalt application without a device farm.
- Work with device-partner engineering teams on platform issues.
- Mentor engineers and raise the team’s native and systems engineering standards.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, primarily in systems or native code.
- Expert modern C++ experience, including C++17/20, memory management, concurrency, templates, and debugging large codebases.
- Strong production Rust experience with ownership, lifetimes, async programming, unsafe code, and C/C++ interoperability.
- Experience with GN/Ninja, CMake, or Bazel and cross-compiling for ARM and embedded Linux or Android targets.
- Hands-on CPU, memory, and startup profiling experience using tools such as perf, Perfetto, or heaptrack.
- Experience debugging real hardware using Android NDK, adb, native crash analysis, and symbolication.
- Clear written communication and a record of leading technical initiatives across teams.
- Preferred experience includes Cobalt, Starboard, Chromium, Blink, WebKit, Servo, JavaScript engine internals, V8, embedded graphics, media pipelines, TV platforms, open-source C++ or Rust contributions, and React and TypeScript.
