Base Salary

$133k - $183k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Develop and iterate on underwriting prediction models for tabular and sequential data.
  • Build and scale feature pipelines and training datasets using proprietary and third-party signals.
  • Prototype modeling ideas, run offline experiments, and move effective approaches into production with risk controls.
  • Integrate models into batch and real-time decision systems while improving reliability, latency, and operational robustness.
  • Instrument and monitor model and data health and help define retraining and backtesting workflows.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Risk Analytics, Product, and ML Platform stakeholders to define requirements, assess tradeoffs, and communicate results.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience as a machine learning engineer or a PhD in a relevant field.
  • Strong Python skills and experience writing production-quality code.
  • Experience building and evaluating classification models, preferably with LightGBM, XGBoost, CatBoost, or similar methods.
  • Experience with a deep learning framework, preferably PyTorch.
  • Experience with distributed data processing or parallel compute frameworks such as Spark, Ray, or Dask.
  • Experience with ML lifecycle tooling for training orchestration, experimentation, and model monitoring, such as Kubeflow, Airflow, or MLflow.
  • Proficiency with AI-powered developer tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Ability to design solutions spanning multiple software components and write clear, tested, and extensible code.
  • Ability to navigate large codebases, debug others’ code, and provide code review feedback.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
