Responsibilities
- Own MongoDB Atlas cluster configuration and management across multiple environments.
- Lead schema and data model design, making choices around embedding and aggregation patterns.
- Own index strategy, query performance analysis, and aggregation pipeline design.
- Evaluate and plan database technology decisions for optimal fit.
- Design and execute data migrations between database systems.
- Manage Atlas infrastructure through Terraform, including cluster sizing and access control.
- Design and maintain OIDC authentication across Atlas projects.
- Monitor database performance and identify bottlenecks.
- Partner with backend engineers on schema design and indexing strategies.
- Establish runbooks for operational tasks like failover and scaling events.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience with MongoDB in production, including Atlas-managed clusters.
- Strong ability to design schemas around application access patterns.
- Deep understanding of indexing, query planning, and MongoDB operational fundamentals.
- Solid experience with Amazon RDS or other relational databases.
- Strong SQL skills for query optimization and schema design.
- Proficiency in Python for scripting and automation.
- Experience planning or executing database migrations across technology boundaries.
- Proficiency with Terraform for managing cloud database infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with AWS and Azure networking.
- Strong written communication and documentation habits.
