Responsibilities
- Debug complex issues across Python applications, frameworks, dependencies, CI/CD, runtime environments, and platform integrations.
- Build tooling, automation, and diagnostics that prevent and resolve engineering problems.
- Develop expertise in Netflix’s Python platform and developer tooling.
- Convert recurring developer pain points into improvements to tooling, documentation, workflows, and platform capabilities.
- Partner with Python Platform and other engineering teams to resolve cross-system technical problems.
Requirements
- Demonstrated software engineering experience building, debugging, or operating production systems.
- Proficiency in Python with experience debugging and contributing to production code, libraries, or frameworks.
- Understanding of Python packaging and dependency management, including pip, pyproject.toml, virtual environments, and wheels.
- Experience with Python frameworks and development tooling such as FastAPI and Flask.
- Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants and agentic tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and MCP.
- Experience diagnosing unfamiliar codebases and issues across dependencies, build and CI/CD systems, runtime performance, concurrency or async I/O, distributed systems, and service integrations.
- Ability to read and reason about framework and library internals.
- Ability to own ambiguous technical problems and drive them to resolution.
- Effective written and verbal English communication skills.
- Interest in improving developer productivity and engineering workflows at scale.
- Preferred experience includes platform engineering, developer productivity, internal tooling, SRE, resilience engineering, fault injection, chaos testing, progressive delivery, large-scale AWS or Kubernetes environments, and JavaScript/TypeScript or Java systems.
