Base Salary
$191k - $262k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end technical vision and architecture for Faire’s search and discovery experience.
- Design composable grids, intent-aware routing, and orchestration layers that unify retrieval and ranking.
- Use LLMs to modernize query understanding and improve long-tail and edge-case search accuracy.
- Increase retrieval scale while maintaining stable, low-latency search performance.
- Develop AI-driven features and offline pipelines to recover failed search sessions through expanded queries.
- Partner with client engineers on SDUI and React Server Components for dynamic search layouts and improved performance.
- Own reliability and observability across the search funnel, including query planning and real-time retrieval monitoring.
- Mentor engineers and drive technical excellence, ownership, and cross-functional decision-making.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- 3+ years as a technical leader driving complex, cross-team projects.
- Strong programming skills in Kotlin or Java and experience with high-performance backend systems, Protocol Buffers, and MySQL.
- Experience partnering with Data Science to deploy and leverage machine learning and generative AI systems in search ranking and retrieval.
- Knowledge of search and query processing, including traditional, semantic, and hybrid frameworks such as Elasticsearch and Lucene.
- Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into clear technical direction and influence broader organizational strategy and roadmaps.
