Responsibilities
- Own the technical strategy and execution plan for migrating the embedded Linux telematics framework to AOSP/Android Automotive.
- Re-architect CAN/CAN-FD, J1939, ISOBUS, UDS, and DoIP interfaces as Vehicle HAL extensions or native AIDL/HIDL services.
- Port 4G/5G modem connectivity, RIL/Telephony integration, GNSS, MQTT/HTTPS telemetry, diagnostics, and fleet-management services to Android.
- Migrate FOTA/SOTA mechanisms to Android A/B seamless updates or an equivalent update framework.
- Adapt eCall/ERA-GLONASS, tachograph, driver-data, and emissions/usage-reporting features to Android’s process and permission model.
- Define SELinux policies, Android permission boundaries, secure boot, and verified-boot controls in support of cybersecurity requirements.
- Build and maintain the AOSP build system, repo/manifest, device tree, and BSP integration for TCU hardware.
- Define regression, bench, and vehicle-level testing to validate functional and performance parity between Linux and Android.
- Coordinate migration sequencing and phased or parallel-run rollout plans with platform, BSP, cloud/backend, and OEM customer teams.
- Document architecture decisions, capture migration learnings, and mentor engineers adopting embedded Android.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of embedded software development experience in automotive, telematics, or IoT.
- Strong C/C++ skills, including C++14 or later, plus Java/Kotlin experience for Android-layer development.
- Hands-on embedded Android/AOSP experience with HALs, VHAL or custom HALs, AIDL/HIDL, system services, SELinux policy, and the Android build system.
- Experience with LTE/5G modems, Android RIL integration, GNSS, MQTT, TLS, and REST.
- Experience with Android OTA updates, A/B seamless updates or equivalent mechanisms, secure boot, and verified boot concepts.
- Demonstrated experience taking a substantial embedded system through an operating-system or platform migration, including gap analysis, phased cutover, and regression-risk management.
- Proficiency with Vector CANoe/CANalyzer, bus analyzers, JTAG/Lauterbach debuggers, Git, and CI/CD.
- Solid Embedded Linux experience with Yocto or Buildroot telematics platforms.
- Knowledge of CAN/CAN-FD, J1939, UDS, and DoIP, plus at least one of ISOBUS, FMS, or Automotive Ethernet/SOME-IP.
- Preferred qualifications include production Android Automotive/AAOS and Vehicle HAL experience, AUTOSAR Classic or Adaptive experience, and knowledge of ISO/SAE 21434, UNECE R155/R156, and ISO 26262.
- Preferred experience includes eCall/ERA-GLONASS, digital tachograph, emissions telematics, Automotive SPICE, global OEM customers, and multi-site development teams.
