Responsibilities
- Establish technical direction and develop system architectures for OpenBMC firmware, BMC, BIOS, cloud, compute, and switching projects.
- Assess customer and product requirements, translate them into measurable engineering requirements, and determine needed competencies during quoting.
- Advise customers, product planning, business development, and engineering teams on technology tradeoffs, cost, complexity, schedule, risk, and feasibility.
- Monitor technical direction throughout product development and communicate architecture decisions through handoff documentation.
- Collaborate with electrical, thermal, BIOS, validation, RAS, and OS system architects.
- Stay current with CPU, GPU, storage, memory, FPGA, MCU, OpenBMC, DMTF, and Open Compute technologies.
- Lead BMC and BIOS projects with multiple engineers and mentor, train, and coach engineers.
- Contribute to architecture methods, processes, project milestones, and technical risk planning.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, or electrical engineering is required.
- 15+ years of experience in firmware design and engineering is required.
- Expertise in OpenBMC architecture, codebase, repository structure, and testing is required.
- Experience with BMC firmware, Linux, firmware stacks, server management, and industry standards including IPMI, Redfish, MCTP, PLDM, SMBUS, I2C, and I3C is required.
- Knowledge of C++, Python, JavaScript, HTML5, Git, source control, and software testing is required.
- Familiarity with Intel, AMD, Nvidia, or ARM CPU/GPU architectures and Aspeed BMC products is required or preferred as specified.
- Experience with Secure Boot, SPDM, Platform Root of Trust, DICE, NIST SP 800-193, PKI, certificates, AES, HMAC, and ECC is required.
- Modern BIOS architecture, system design, block diagrams, server provisioning and deployment, and MegaRAC experience are beneficial or preferred.
- Ability to assess projects, articulate risks, define milestones, communicate technical direction, influence others, and mentor engineers is required.
