Responsibilities
- Modernize the core architecture by decoupling the accounting monolith and establishing a resilient API and middleware layer.
- Reshape mission-critical systems for higher throughput, extreme reliability, and long-term scalability without compromising customer data integrity.
- Drive architectural strategy across invoicing, Bank Feeds, Product Packaging & Subscriptions, and core platform data flows.
- Establish technical foundations, principles, and safety guardrails for agentic development, autonomous operations, and AI-native engineering workflows.
- Define company-wide engineering practices, architectural standards, and feedback loops that support developer autonomy with systemic guardrails.
- Shape Xero’s long-term technical direction and architecture while leading large-scale initiatives across the organization.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating at the highest levels of technical authority and shaping strategy across large engineering organizations of 1,000 or more engineers.
- Deep experience modernizing business-critical legacy architectures into decoupled product platforms, unified API layers, and distributed microservices.
- Exceptional ability to align senior stakeholders, C-suite executives, and cross-functional VP leadership around major architectural initiatives.
- Experience building APIs, shared libraries, and platform capabilities that abstract domain complexity while preserving strict data integrity.
- Demonstrated vision for AI-native engineering, automated software delivery, and advanced reliability at global scale.
