Base Salary
$125k - $168k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead an agile delivery team or significant program workstream while owning technical outcomes, delivery quality, risks, and developer experience.
- Remain hands-on in architecture, design, and software development while overseeing multiple work packages and aligning solutions with engineering standards.
- Assess legacy codebases and application estates, build inventories, and recommend rehost, refactor, re-platform, retire, retain, or replace strategies.
- Create assessments, target-state designs, specifications, architecture decision records, acceptance criteria, and executable delivery plans.
- Lead client discovery and planning sessions to define business outcomes, constraints, success criteria, and delivery priorities.
- Design distributed systems on Azure, AWS, or GCP with attention to scalability, availability, performance, and other non-functional requirements.
- Advance reusable modernization patterns, engineering standards, documentation, quality practices, and developer experience.
- Identify and mitigate technical, architectural, delivery, legacy-dependency, migration, and AI-assisted development risks.
- Coach and mentor engineers while providing technical leadership, accountability, and clear architectural direction.
- Support modernization discovery, assessments, solutioning, pre-sales, technical interviews, and capability-building initiatives as needed.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of progressive software engineering, application development, or related experience, including at least 3 years in application modernization, cloud architecture, or technical delivery leadership.
- Experience leading modernization of large-scale, complex, high-availability applications, including cloud-native and microservices architectures.
- Hands-on proficiency in at least one mainstream programming language, such as Java, .NET, or Python, with the ability to analyze legacy codebases.
- Experience assessing legacy application estates, developing application inventories, and recommending modernization strategies.
- Experience leading solution design and translating business requirements into technical architectures, specifications, ADRs, acceptance criteria, and delivery plans.
- Strong experience designing distributed systems on Azure, AWS, or GCP, including scalability, availability, performance, and architectural trade-offs.
- Experience establishing engineering standards and quality practices involving automation, testing, documentation, quality gates, and reusable patterns.
- Experience managing technical, architectural, and delivery risks across the software development lifecycle.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools or agents for code analysis, development, testing, documentation, or modernization while maintaining engineering oversight.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, coaching, mentorship, and accountability for engineering quality and delivery.
- Strong client-facing communication skills and the ability to explain architectural decisions and align teams around desired outcomes.
- Relevant cloud or architecture certifications from Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud are preferred.
- Experience with modernization discovery, assessments, solutioning, pre-sales, reusable engineering assets, reference architectures, technical interviews, or enterprise AI-assisted development is preferred.
