Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Own the science and technical direction for Compass’s agentic products, including data use, agent and tool strategy, context strategy, and quality measurement.
- Ship retailer-assistant features end-to-end across the FLARE Python app, data plumbing, tool wrappers, and frontend surfaces.
- Translate ambiguous product bets into sequenced, de-risked tactical plans.
- Define offline evaluation suites, LLM-as-judge metrics, and quality criteria for agent surfaces and retailer journeys.
- Make pragmatic architectural and engineering choices that support immediate delivery and future evolution.
- Partner with engineering and adjacent Search, Personalization, and Platform/FLARE teams on architecture and serving tradeoffs.
- Raise team judgment through prototypes, analyses, design reviews, and pairing.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of industry experience building and shipping production ML/AI systems with measurable business impact.
- Hands-on ownership of applied science, including data, evaluation, modeling, and quality.
- Experience shipping agentic or LLM-powered features in a core production product.
- Strong understanding of agent design tradeoffs involving evaluation, latency, cost, quality, tool calling, context preload, guardrails, and failure containment.
- Strong applied ML and data science foundation with experience designing experiments and turning proprietary or structured data into product capabilities.
- Ability to ship across backend, data, and ideally frontend stacks.
- Architectural maturity, autonomy, resourcefulness, and sound engineering judgment.
- Bonus: e-commerce, marketplace, recommendation, retrieval, personalization, safe action-taking assistants, OpenAI Agents SDK, preload-over-RAG strategies, Snowflake-backed grounding, early-stage product development, public writing, open-source contributions, or technical talks.
