Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and roadmap of the model-serving runtime and its control plane across multiple ML frameworks and inference engines.
- Lead large-scale production model migrations and rollouts while preventing viewer-facing regressions.
- Build and maintain serving backends, model configurations, batching strategies, autoscaling, capacity management, and multi-region resilience.
- Drive observability, cost optimization, performance tuning, hardware selection, GPU and CPU utilization, and model optimization.
- Define automated contracts and deployment paths between model training and production serving.
- Establish model-level SLOs and telemetry, collaborate with scientists and infrastructure teams, and support new runtimes and markets.
- Author, test, review, and optimize Python production code; participate in on-call and lead incident reviews.
- Create technical documentation, contribute to architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and represent the platform in cross-team reviews.
Requirements
- At least 9 years of industry experience and at least 5 years building or operating production ML infrastructure or comparable low-latency, large-scale distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience running model inference in production at scale and owning a tier-1 service with on-call responsibilities.
- Strong Kubernetes fundamentals, including running GPU and CPU workloads.
- Performance engineering experience with profiling, tail-latency analysis, batching, and concurrency under load.
- At least 7 years of Python programming experience and working fluency in a systems language such as C++, Go, or Rust.
- Practical knowledge of the machine learning lifecycle from training artifacts through deployment, rollout, and monitoring.
- Strong architecture and design skills with experience leading multi-quarter technical initiatives across teams.
- Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure; Docker; Kubernetes; and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with partners across time zones.
- Preferred qualifications include extending inference servers, contributing to open-source serving runtimes, working with recommendation, ranking, or search systems, and building self-service internal platforms.
