Responsibilities
- Lead critical technical design decisions for platform performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Design, implement, and maintain large-scale systems for moving ML models into production.
- Write design documents, build consensus, and guide new system components and enhancements.
- Evaluate and adopt new technologies across Workday and the broader industry.
- Troubleshoot and scale continuous integration software pipelines.
- Collaborate with software engineers, ML engineers, data scientists, and partner teams.
- Respond to alerts and debug production issues to maintain platform health.
- Review pull requests for consistency, performance, readability, and security.
- Develop documentation and share knowledge with other engineers.
- Help shape the product vision for the AI Model Serving platform with the engineering manager.
Requirements
- Senior level: 6+ years of related software development experience focused on large-scale distributed systems.
- Principal level: 10+ years of related software development experience focused on large-scale distributed systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Deep experience designing, building, and scaling production-grade distributed systems.
- Deep proficiency in Python and Python-based frameworks.
- Familiarity with serving, scaling, and monitoring large language models and traditional machine learning models in production.
- Ability to design monitoring strategies covering system health, performance, and cost.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical design writing and consensus building.
- Experience mentoring engineers and fostering an inclusive engineering environment.
- Experience with the software development lifecycle, testing, code reviews, source control, deployment, and coding standards.
Benefits
- Annualized base salary is listed as $168,000 CAD–$252,000 CAD for the primary Vancouver location, with additional US location ranges stated in the posting.
- Eligible employees may receive the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific bonus and annual refresh stock grants.
