Base Salary

$165k - $220k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own backend services for ingesting, processing, and storing real-time and historical vehicle telemetry.
  • Architect APIs serving vehicle and mission data to internal tools, customer dashboards, and integrations.
  • Design data models and storage strategies for high-volume, time-series, and geospatial data.
  • Build resilient systems that handle intermittent connectivity, delayed data, out-of-order data, and maritime edge cases.
  • Improve the scalability, observability, and reliability of existing backend services as fleet size and data volume grow.
  • Collaborate with vehicle software and UI teams to integrate new data sources and capabilities.
  • Help define backend architecture, technical direction, and engineering best practices.
  • Mentor other engineers and independently scope and lead backend projects.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional backend software engineering experience designing and scaling production systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, Go, or a similar backend language.
  • Strong experience with security principles and implementation.
  • Deep experience designing REST and/or streaming APIs using technologies such as WebSocket and MQTT.
  • Strong experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, and time-series or geospatial data modeling.
  • Experience designing cloud infrastructure for reliability and cost efficiency at scale.
  • Experience with distributed systems concepts including queuing, caching, eventual consistency, and unreliable networks.
  • Experience building telemetry or IoT data pipelines for robotics, autonomous vehicles, or remote sensor fleets is a bonus.
  • Familiarity with message queues or streaming platforms is a bonus.
  • Experience with TimescaleDB, InfluxDB, PostGIS, Terraform, Docker, or Kubernetes is a bonus.
  • Exposure to maritime, defense, or other real-time mission-critical systems is a bonus.
  • Strong technical communication skills and the ability to independently lead backend projects.
