Responsibilities
- Own the greenfield design and implementation of the Proton Drive Linux desktop client.
- Integrate Linux-specific system components, including the filesystem layer used by the synchronization engine.
- Contribute to the platform-agnostic SDK and CLI tooling for scripting and cross-client use.
- Build and maintain cross-client automated and end-to-end tests with Windows and Mac engineers.
- Define and implement telemetry for performance analysis, debugging, and customer support.
- Own build pipelines, packaging, and distribution for major Linux distributions.
- Maintain production-quality open-source software intended for external developers to use and extend.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of software development experience building Linux-based desktop client software, including GUI and CLI applications.
- Experience applying software development and code quality best practices.
- Experience with DevOps principles and practices, including CI/CD.
- Experience using Git for code reviews, branching, and merging.
- Experience with open-source Linux development, distribution, packaging, and maintenance across multiple distributions.
- Experience handling the full software development lifecycle end to end.
- GTK+ or Qt experience is preferred, particularly for Linux desktop client development.
- Rust experience is preferred.
