Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate Google Cloud infrastructure covering networking, IAM, compute, storage, and managed data services.
- Build and manage cloud control-plane capabilities with Crossplane and author reusable, tested Terraform modules.
- Operate production Kubernetes clusters, including capacity planning, networking, ingress, storage, autoscaling, multi-tenancy, and troubleshooting.
- Develop platform APIs, services, and controllers in Go for self-service cloud resource provisioning and management.
- Create platform documentation, client examples, runbooks, golden paths, and reusable onboarding patterns.
- Build and maintain GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps pipelines, reusable workflows, self-hosted runners, and secret-management processes.
- Implement GitOps deployment and promotion flows with tools such as Argo CD.
- Automate provisioning, onboarding, credential and certificate rotation, and recurring operational work.
- Implement automated testing, dependency and container scanning, infrastructure-as-code validation, and static analysis.
- Define and monitor SLIs and SLOs, dashboards, alerting, logging, and tracing for platform services.
- Participate in on-call rotation, incident response, blameless postmortems, patching, vulnerability remediation, and cloud cost optimization.
- Apply least-privilege access, policy-as-code, admission controls, private networking, and other security and compliance controls.
- Contribute to the technical roadmap, collaborate with product partners, and support software and product development lifecycle processes.
- Mentor engineers through pairing, design guidance, code review, and technical knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant information technology field, or at least 7 years of direct infrastructure, platform, or backend engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
- 3–5 years of professional cloud engineering experience building and supporting production platform services.
- Production experience with Google Cloud Platform or another major cloud provider.
- Experience designing, building, and operating APIs and backend services, with proficiency in Go or another backend language and readiness to work primarily in Go.
- Production experience with Terraform and infrastructure as code.
- Production Linux systems administration experience and scripting experience with Bash and Python.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
- Experience with secure engineering practices, access control, data protection, auditability, and responsible handling of production data.
- Ability to own services or components end to end through design, production support, and ambiguous cross-team problems.
- Additional qualifications include Crossplane or similar control-plane experience, healthcare privacy and compliance knowledge including HIPAA, Docker and Kubernetes experience, distributed systems or integration design, and multi-cloud or hybrid experience.
- Experience with policy-as-code and admission control tools such as OPA/Gatekeeper, Kyverno, or Sentinel.
- Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
- Cloud or Kubernetes certifications such as Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect, Google Cloud Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer, CKA, or CKAD are valued.
- Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, technical judgment, and mentoring capabilities are required.
