Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services for Camunda 8’s process data layer across relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
- Own medium-to-large engineering initiatives from requirements and solution design through planning, coordination, and delivery.
- Evolve process-data processing, retention, exposure, and streaming to external systems.
- Improve the performance, scalability, observability, and operability of secondary storage systems.
- Build tooling to understand, troubleshoot, and safely operate the data layer in production.
- Participate in L3 support and on-call rotations and investigate production data-layer issues with Support and SRE.
- Partner with Product Management, design, QA, support, and engineering peers to shape the data layer.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience as a backend engineer focused on backend systems and production data stores.
- Deep experience with relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, including query performance, indexing, and data-modeling trade-offs.
- Experience investigating slow queries, execution plans, index usage, and data-related production issues.
- Proven experience leading medium-to-large engineering initiatives of at least three months end to end.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in a remote-first environment.
- Ability and/or willingness to use the Camunda product.
- Nice-to-have experience with workflow automation or process orchestration software.
- Nice-to-have experience building or maintaining CI pipelines.
- Understanding of database migration tooling such as Liquibase or Flyway and schema evolution in live systems.
