Base Salary
$108k - $135k/yr
Responsibilities
- Architect and build scalable, high-performance backend services using Java, Quarkus, Spring Boot, and Node.js.
- Model distributed domains using Domain-Driven Design, bounded contexts, and event-driven patterns.
- Design asynchronous workflows and decoupled communications using Kafka, AWS SQS, and AWS SNS.
- Own service reliability through SLI/SLO definition, Datadog observability, production incident response, and log analysis.
- Optimize relational, analytical, and caching data architectures using Aurora RDS, Google BigQuery, and Redis.
- Deploy and operate cloud-native services on AWS and Azure using Kubernetes and EKS, including progressive rollouts.
- Collaborate with product, mobile, quality engineering, and data teams while mentoring peers.
- Use AI-assisted development tools and agents for code generation, refactoring, debugging, testing, code reviews, incident triage, and pull-request workflows.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building, operating, and tuning production-grade backend services at scale.
- Strong production expertise with Java, Quarkus, and Spring Boot; Node.js backend experience is highly valued.
- Deep knowledge of distributed systems, pub/sub, idempotency, eventual consistency, and sagas.
- Hands-on experience with schema design, query tuning, and migrations across relational databases, NoSQL systems, and Redis.
- Production experience deploying containerized workloads to AWS and/or Azure with Kubernetes and EKS.
- Knowledge of Terraform or CloudFormation, GitOps, and automated performance testing with K6, Gatling, or JMeter.
- Experience designing RESTful APIs, with exposure to gRPC, GraphQL, or AsyncAPI.
- Experience with Datadog, application performance monitoring, and distributed tracing.
- Hands-on experience with GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, AI agents, and AI-ready repository practices is required or expected.
- Experience embedding AI into engineering workflows while maintaining reliability, security, and reproducibility.
