Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain enterprise backup infrastructure including AWS Backups, NetBackup, Cohesity, and native database backup solutions.
  • Own the reliability and performance of daily backups and restores against defined RTO and RPO targets.
  • Build automation for backup, restore, reporting, and operational workflows.
  • Design observability, alerting, health checks, and automated remediation for backup services.
  • Generate automated audit, compliance, and operational reports.
  • Troubleshoot backup and restore failures and implement durable reliability improvements.
  • Perform capacity planning, restore testing, disaster recovery, and business continuity exercises.
  • Define and manage SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and operational readiness practices.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Participate in incident response, postmortems, on-call rotations, and major incident restoration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience managing enterprise backup infrastructure in production, including AWS Backups, NetBackup, Cohesity, and native database backup solutions.
  • At least 5 years of experience ensuring the reliability, availability, and operational health of daily backups and restores.
  • At least 4 years of experience with backup, restore, and recovery testing, including RPO and RTO validation.
  • At least 3 years of experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Dynatrace or CloudWatch.
  • At least 3 years of scripting experience with Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
  • At least 3 years of experience building automation for operational workflows.
  • At least 4 years of troubleshooting and root cause analysis experience involving backup and restore issues.
  • At least 3 years of experience with SRE principles, including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, observability, toil reduction, and incident response.
  • At least 3 years of experience generating operational, compliance, and audit reports.
  • At least 2 years of experience with enterprise database backup and restore operations, such as Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
  • At least 2 years of experience with Ansible or similar automation and configuration management frameworks.
  • At least 2 years of experience documenting runbooks, standards, procedures, and recovery processes.
  • Bonus qualifications include production experience with AWS, Linux, and Windows; familiarity with incident and problem management; reliability engineering experience; and certifications in AWS, backup technologies, or observability tools.
