Base Salary

$102k - $261k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve distributed services supporting large-scale training runs and mission-critical AI workloads.
  • Improve researcher and engineer iteration loops for reinforcement learning and LLM post-training.
  • Debug model and hardware interactions and apply performance optimization techniques.
  • Develop ML systems, AI infrastructure, compute orchestration, and cloud software capabilities.
  • Write maintainable, secure, performant, and well-tested code and contribute to architecture and design decisions.
  • Implement secure deployment, flighting, rollback, capacity planning, disaster recovery, observability, and monitoring for product features.
  • Participate in rotational on-call support, mitigate live-site incidents, write postmortems, and improve troubleshooting and support documentation.
  • Apply security controls, threat modeling, monitoring, incident response, and AI safety practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field and 2+ years of technical engineering experience with coding, or equivalent experience.
  • Coding experience in C, C++, C#, Python, or Java.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
  • Preferred: bachelor's degree and 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred: experience with cloud software development, reinforcement learning, post-training, container workloads, inference technologies, training and orchestration technologies, GPU computing, and distributed training infrastructure.
  • Preferred: ability to modify, optimize, or improve models and training or inference systems rather than merely use them.

Benefits

  • Base pay ranges are provided for Software Engineering IC3 and IC4 roles, with location-specific ranges for the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.
  • The role may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.

  • The position requires a Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
