Base Salary
$260k - $310k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the technical architecture of the platform, including multimodal APIs, real-time event systems, AI orchestration layers, and data infrastructure.
- Lead cross-functional technical initiatives by converting ambiguous product goals into engineering roadmaps and resolving systemic risks.
- Architect production-grade agentic and conversational AI systems, including LLM integration, retrieval, tool-use orchestration, and evaluation frameworks.
- Establish engineering standards for service contracts, data models, deployment patterns, observability, and reliability targets.
- Translate product vision into architecture and shipped systems while making company-wide technical decisions.
- Embed Claude Code, Cursor, and AI-native development practices into engineering workflows.
- Mentor and elevate senior engineers to improve team speed, autonomy, and technical quality.
- Write code, review systems, and partner directly with the VP of Engineering, CTO, co-founder, and CEO.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including several years setting technical direction.
- Proven record of designing scalable systems that have operated successfully in production.
- Expert proficiency in TypeScript and Python, with strong JavaScript skills for full-stack contributions.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, cloud-native infrastructure, multi-tenancy, and horizontal scale.
- Strong understanding of LLM-based systems, including context management, tool-use patterns, latency and cost trade-offs, evaluation strategy, and agentic AI architecture.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science is required.
- Master's or PhD in Computer Science, AI, or a related field is a plus.
- Experience architecting conversational AI, voice AI, or real-time NLP pipelines is a bonus.
- Fintech, payments, core banking, or financial data infrastructure experience is a bonus.
- Founding or early-stage startup engineering experience, publications, open-source contributions, or recognized technical writing are bonuses.
- Must work full-time in San Francisco in person five days per week.
