Responsibilities
- Own the technical vision and architecture for Emergency Preparedness & Response systems.
- Design, build, review, debug, and operate backend-heavy full-stack software.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers while setting technical direction and engineering standards.
- Design for availability, scalability, latency, reliability, cost, and maintainability.
- Define metrics, use data to guide decisions, and improve system and team performance.
- Partner with product, operations, and business stakeholders to align engineering investment with outcomes.
- Anticipate failure modes and ensure operational readiness for surge scenarios during storm events.
- Champion AI-powered tools and workflows to improve development productivity and quality.
Requirements
- Require 6–8 years of demonstrable software development experience, including 2–3 years leading a team.
- Require strong proficiency in Python, Java, or JavaScript and backend-heavy full-stack capability.
- Require experience building highly available, maintainable, and scalable production systems.
- Require deep understanding of availability, scalability, reliability, latency, cost, and maintainability requirements.
- Require a metric-driven approach, strong problem-solving skills, and rigorous reasoning about system behavior and trade-offs.
- Require experience leading and mentoring engineering teams and delivering results through others.
- Require the ability to decompose complex, ambiguous problems into achievable deliverables and work autonomously.
- Prefer experience with high-stakes, time-sensitive, or surge-driven systems such as emergency response, logistics, on-demand marketplaces, or workforce platforms.
- Prefer familiarity with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Prefer experience with observability, on-call, and operational excellence for mission-critical services.
- Prefer a track record of influencing technical direction across teams and mentoring senior engineers.
- Prefer exposure to workforce management, procurement, or supply/demand matching domains.
- Accept a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
