Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and maintain full-stack applications, services, and data platforms for image generation, management, analysis, and processing.
- Translate image-analysis and AI/ML workflows into reliable, reproducible, production-grade software.
- Design and implement RESTful APIs, web interfaces, and PostgreSQL-backed systems for large multidimensional imaging datasets.
- Integrate and extend open-source bioimaging tools and standards, and contribute tested code to the community.
- Perform detailed software design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, installation, and maintenance.
- Manage projects, provide subject matter expertise for production systems, and document support procedures.
- Investigate complex software issues, determine root causes, and develop permanent technical solutions.
- Collaborate with internal teams and vendors, evaluate new technologies, and make architectural recommendations.
- Lead the design of graphical user interfaces and mentor junior teams on emerging technologies and applications.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, information science, business, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of IT experience in systems programming and development.
- Experience with software systems design and maintenance and with gathering and documenting requirements from business stakeholders.
- Preferred experience with full-stack open-source web development using Java, Python, JavaScript, Node.js, and Spring.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented design, Git, testing, CI/CD, and production software delivery.
- Experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs and working with PostgreSQL; Docker and Maven familiarity is preferred.
- Experience in scientific, research, or life-sciences software, ideally involving imaging, microscopy, or large biomedical datasets.
- Hands-on experience with image data, image-analysis pipelines, or integrating AI/ML segmentation, detection, or quantification into applications.
- Familiarity with the Python scientific computing stack and open-source bioimaging tools and standards.
- Ability to collaborate with image data scientists, AI/ML researchers, biologists, and other software engineers.
