Responsibilities
- Architect, build, integrate, test, and maintain full-stack applications, services, and data platforms for large-scale image generation, management, analysis, and processing.
- Design and implement RESTful APIs, graphical user interfaces, web interfaces, and PostgreSQL-backed systems for multidimensional imaging datasets.
- Translate AI/ML and image-analysis workflows into reliable, reproducible, production-grade software.
- Integrate and extend open-source bioimaging tools and standards and contribute tested code to the community.
- Perform detailed software design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, installation, maintenance, and system support.
- Determine root causes of complex software issues and develop practical, permanent technical solutions.
- Collaborate with scientists, biologists, internal teams, vendors, imaging facilities, and research groups.
- Manage projects, provide production-system subject matter expertise, evaluate new technologies, and mentor junior teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, information science, business, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of IT experience in systems programming and development, preferably in a comparable industry.
- Experience with software systems design and maintenance, software development life-cycle methodologies, and requirements identification and documentation.
- Strong proficiency in Java, Python, and JavaScript, with experience in Node.js and Spring.
- Experience with RESTful API design and integration, production-grade software engineering, version control, testing, and continuous integration and delivery.
- Experience with PostgreSQL and familiarity with Docker and Maven.
- Experience in scientific, research, or life-sciences software, ideally involving imaging, microscopy, or large biomedical datasets.
- Hands-on experience with image data, image-analysis pipelines, or integrating AI/ML segmentation, detection, or quantification into applications.
- Familiarity with OME-Zarr/NGFF, Bio-Formats, OMERO, napari, ImageJ/Fiji, NumPy, SciPy, scikit-image, Dask, and Zarr.
- Familiarity with agentic AI or tool-calling frameworks such as the Model Context Protocol is preferred.
- Ability to collaborate with image data scientists, AI/ML researchers, and biologists to translate scientific requirements into robust software.
