Responsibilities
- Own and deliver quarterly goals while leading engineers through ambiguous, open-ended problems.
- Build backend orchestration layers for Affirm’s web and mobile authentication, verification, and fraud journeys.
- Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics on ideation, technical constraints, risks, and trade-offs.
- Identify and lead resolution of project, process, technology, and business issues.
- Create and monitor metrics, escalate issues, and support availability, maintenance, and on-call efforts.
- Set and improve code review and design standards and promote quality and ownership through writing and tech talks.
- Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
- Experience developing highly available distributed systems using technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Proficiency with backend programming languages such as Python or Kotlin.
- Understanding of web and mobile layers, including frontend patterns such as fraud prevention and backend-for-frontend.
- Ability to define technical plans for significant features or system components using simple, extensible designs.
- Ability to make significant changes safely in a large codebase using appropriate tools and practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
- Demonstrated ownership of professional growth and proactive feedback-seeking.
